Temptation : Motive and Intention of the Evil Ones.

Temptation

Theme : Motive and Intention of the evil ones.

The Origin of the fall of satan.

Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, Lucifer, son of the morning! Thou art cut down to the ground, that didst prostrate the nations!

Isa 14:13 And thou that didst say in thy heart, I will ascend into the heavens, I will exalt my throne above the stars of *God, and I will sit upon the mount of assembly, in the recesses of the north;

Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High:

The Temptation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Mat 4:3 And the tempter coming up to him said, If thou be Son of God, speak, that these stones may become loaves of bread.

Mat 4:4 But he answering said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word which goes out through God's mouth.

Mat 4:5 Then the devil takes him to the holy city, and sets him upon the edge of the temple,

Mat 4:6 and says to him, If thou be Son of God cast thyself down; for it is written, He shall give charge to his angels concerning thee, and on their hands shall they bear thee, lest in anywise thou strike thy foot against a stone.

Mat 4:7 Jesus said to him, It is again written, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Mat 4:8 Again the devil takes him to a very high mountain, and shews him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory,

Mat 4:9 and says to him, All these things will I give thee if, falling down, thou wilt do me homage.

Mat 4:10 Then says Jesus to him, Get thee away, Satan, for it is written, Thou shalt do homage to the Lord thy God, and him alone shalt thou serve.

The temptation of man.

1John 2:15 Love not the world, nor the things in the world. If any one love the world, the love of the Father is not in him;

1John 2:16 because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

The Comparison of the fall of satan/ temptation of our Lord Jesus/Man

The vainglory/ Pride of life

Ascend above the heights of the clouds

Be like the MOST HIGH

The origin/evil intention of satan:

1) The fall of lucifer

a) He wants to be Lord and God

  • Isa 14:14 I will be like the Most High:

  • Mat 4:9 if thou wilt do me homage (Mat 4:9 if you worship me.)

  • Mat 4:10 Then Jesus said to him, "Be gone, Satan! For it is written, "'You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.'"

b) He shall be called satan (accuser)

  • 1Ch 21:1 And Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.

c) He is in control of the world

  • 1John 5:19 the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

  • Mat 4:8-9 Again the devil takes him to a very high mountain, and shews him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory, and says to him, All these things will I give thee if, falling down, thou wilt do me homage.

d) Father of all lies

  • John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

2) Satan's works toward man and believer after his fall.

a) He is a tempter

  • Job 2:9 Then his wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die."

  • Mat 4:3 And the tempter coming up to him said, If thou be Son of God, speak, that these stones may become loaves of bread.

b) He is a accuser

  • Zec 3:1 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.

  • Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

c) Enemy toward God thru sin

  • Rom 5:10-12 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.

d) Desire evil

  • 1Co 10:6 Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did.

  • James 1:14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.

e) To tell lies : John 8:44

3) Satan's motive toward believer after his fall? (Individually and Corporately).

A) Individual

a) To draw/fall away from God

  • Mat 24:10 And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another.

  • Mat 24:12 And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.

  • Luke 22:3 Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve.

b) Want us to sin

  • John 8:11 And she said, No one, sir. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

c) To be like him(satan)

d) Not to reign with God

  • Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy he who has part in the first resurrection: over these the second death has no power; but they shall be priests of God and of the Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

e) Not to inherit God's kingdom

  • Gal 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are fornication, uncleanness, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strifes, jealousies, angers, contentions, disputes, schools of opinion, envyings, murders, drunkennesses, revels, and things like these; as to which I tell you beforehand, even as I also have said before, that they who do such things shall not inherit God's kingdom.

B) Corporately

a) Division

  • 1Co 1:13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

b) Contentions

  • 1Co 1:11 For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe's household, that there are contentions among you.
